Professional statement

Dr. Jason Herndon is a licensed psychologist in Greensboro, North Carolina. He works with couples and individuals who need dealing with relationship issues. Many of Dr. Herndon’s clients come in when unresolved conflict, miscommunication, or infidelity are preventing them from moving forward in their relationships. Dr. Herndon is particularly passionate about serving couples and men of color. They also have advanced training in the area of culturally responsive care.

Dr. Herndon is trained in Gottman Method, which uses proven skills to help couples reduce conflict, improve communication, and develop a deeper connection and shared values. In session, Dr. Herndon focuses on guiding couples to try new ways of expressing themselves with each other. This approach supports clients to have in the moment practice and direct feedback on how to build the relationship they want.

Dr. Herndon’s style is collaborative and empowering. When a client first comes in, we work together to identify your strengths and areas of growth as a couple, so we know exactly where to direct our energy in sessions. Dr. Herndon is dedicated to providing a relationship that is culturally responsive and encourages continuous learning and development.

Dr. Herndon received his PhD at Saint Louis University with a specialty in child psychology. He worked with children and families for many years before re-specializing as a couples therapist, which enables him to consider the family as a whole, the impact of children on relationships, and how to help couples align their values around parenthood. Outside of private practice, he is an avid reader and writer.

Message to clients

I’m Jason Herndon, and I help couples just like you: ones that have it in them to build healthy, thriving relationships, but just need the support to get there.

I help my couples find enjoyment, satisfaction, and deeper connection by equipping them with the tools they need to develop better conflict management, shared values, and friendship.

Many of today’s solutions for couples fail to consider the unique experiences of culturally diverse clients, leading so many to feel like therapy might not be right for them. I know that your circumstances are unique, so every step we take is tailored to you, and always with your specific goals in mind.

First, we examine your history and your present to identify your strengths and those areas that are causing the barriers you’re experiencing in your relationship. We will filter those through your unique cultural values and background so we have a clear sense of where you’re each coming from with your goals. Then, we work on your friendship skills, conflict management skills, and develop a sense of shared meaning that will be most effective for you. Through our work together, you’ll be equipped with the skills and confidence you need to thrive in your relationship.
