Message to clients

Hello and thank you for taking a moment to consider me as a counselor on your healing journey. I believe this process of healing and growth is a deeply personal one. Some values that are important to me for a strong therapeutic relationship are trust, patience, compassion, care, courage, and comfort. I’m open to learning what values are important for you as we begin to work together. One way for me to begin to build trust is to share about who I am. My identities include ones considered to be part of dominant groups in the U.S. For instance, I am a cisgender het white woman, married to a cishet man, parent, homeowner who holds a PhD. I have earned and unearned privileges from these identities. I have also experienced misogyny, sexual violence, divorce, and family members with addiction and severe mental illness. My understanding of systems of power and oppression started at a very young age. I’m committed to life-long (un)learning of social conditioning that does not serve kindness, compassion, love, forgiveness, creativity, equitable access to opportunity, and authentic connectedness. I make mistakes.

While I have specific education, training, and experience in mental health and wellness, you are the expert in your life. Throughout our work together, you are the leader. We will go as slow and fast as needed for you to heal and grow. Communication and feedback about your experience in counseling with me are key to ensuring your experience is what you want it to be. I look forward to learning about you and thank you again for considering me. It is an honor.
