Professional statement

Jeff Goodman is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing out of Texas. He welcomes young adults and adults into his down-to-earth therapy sessions, supporting those who struggle with addiction, PTSD, sexual difficulties, abandonment issues, and more. Many of his clients find themselves highly anxious throughout the day, whether that’s when they’re alone or when they’re in a group of people. This might stem from trauma, neurodiversity, a mental health condition, or a pattern learned from previous experiences.

Jeff has a deep passion for neuroscience – the science of how brains work. He enjoys helping clients discover how their brains work and applying what’s known about the brain to conversations about what’s going on in their lives at that time. He practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) so that people gain insight into their core values and what’s most important to them. He also helps clients to adjust their thought patterns through a therapy approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and for those who struggle with PTSD or anxiety, using an approach called Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERPT).

Jeff earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Angelo State University. He’s previously worked in psychiatric hospital/prison and forensic settings as well as a sex rehabilitation program. His relaxed nature sets clients at immediate ease, and he enjoys playing the role of co-pilot as clients navigate through choppy waters to find a space of comfort, security, and joy.

Message to clients

I'm a combat veteran turned therapist, and that path has given me a wide range of life experiences that shape how I show up in the therapy room. Alongside a strong foundation in research and clinical practice, my own neurodivergence (yep, spicy brain here) gives me a unique lens and a deep sense of empathy for others navigating life in their own way.

In our sessions, there's no judgment—just a space where we can hang out, talk through what’s going on, and work together on real solutions. Some people I work with want to dig into the “why” behind their struggles, while others are more focused on finding practical ways to move forward. Both approaches are totally valid, and we can follow whichever path fits you best.

I use a mix of therapy styles—things like CBT, NAT (targeting unhelpful thoughts), ERPT (working with behaviors and exposure), and Cognitive Neuroscience—but I try to keep the process feeling natural and human, not like a psychology textbook. What matters most to me is that you feel supported and that the work we do together actually helps you feel better, in a way that feels right for you.
