Professional statement

Jelisha Gatling is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in NYC specializing in couples counseling and relationship issues. She is a Pre-marital Prepare/Enrich Certified Facilitator and often integrates the Prepare/Enrich relationship assessment in her work with couples, which is an invaluable resource for couples at all stages.

Jelisha provides support to couples helping them to stay connected as they navigate life transitions. Couples can gain support as they manage unresolved conflicts, new levels of commitment, moving in, marriage, parenthood, blending families, understanding different cultural perspectives, extended family issues, and external stressors that impact the relationship. Jelisha helps couples on working to communicate better and resolve conflict in a healthy way while maintaining intimacy and connectedness.

Many clients who see Jelisha gain tools to better manage stress outside of the relationship as well. She helps them utilize healthy coping mechanisms to manage their day-to-day stress and to handle conflict resolution with care, concern, and curiosity. She helps partners to recognize when they may be bringing their own baggage into interactions versus an actual issue within the relationship.

Working from relational angle, Jelisha's therapeutic style is attachment based, utilizing both emotionally focused therapy, insight-oriented and narrative modalities. She is committed to providing a supportive and safe environment for clients to find solutions as they reach their relationship goals. Jelisha exclusively provides online video therapy.

Message to clients

It can be frustrating to feel like you are going in circles. After saying the same thing a million times, it can feel like your partner just isn't listening to you. I love helping couples to really "hear" each other and get to the root of the issue rather than just scratching at the surface. I teach couples techniques and guide them through exercises that help them to better communicate and resolve conflict healthily. Premarital counseling is another supplement of relationship tools that I will sometimes utilize working with couples (whether engaged, married or neither). Are you ready to release the baggage that is keeping you stuck? If so, I would love to help you unpack and reconnect.
