Professional statement

Jen Signet Yovino is a licensed and board certified creative arts therapist with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. She helps clients work through problems and uncomfortable feelings creatively (such as through painting, drawing, sculpture, and other expressive media) which can open new doors to self-awareness and coping. Jen strives to offer a space where people can feel safe to be themselves and create without judgment.

Jen communicates with warmth, respect, and appreciation of her clients. She takes a client-centered and psychodynamic approach - leading with empathy and exploring versus pathologizing clients' emotional and behavioral landscapes. She has a knack for keenly following and remembering each client's life story, noticing themes and patterns, and asking questions that bring up new self-discoveries.

Jen’s clinical experiences range from intensive family-based in-home services, to adult inpatient psychiatry, to school-based work (pre-school through college), and to community outpatient clinic work. Jen founded her own private practice about 5 years ago and now works mainly with adults.

During a therapy session, Jen will intuitively offer art materials that support clients in areas such as self-expression, grounding, anxiety management, mindfulness, self-esteem, insight, and emotional processing. No prior experience with the arts is necessary, and Jen will guide as needed. Currently, there are openings for new in-person clients at her office in Port Jefferson.

Message to clients

Having a safe space to connect, create, and be understood in can be healing. I value people trusting me with their challenges in life, and am genuinely committed towards supporting my clients' mental health needs. I also love making art, and supporting others in their creative processes.

At the same time, art making in sessions is always optional, and some clients may prefer talk psychotherapy alone. When we meet, we will discuss your needs and tailor the therapy accordingly. Trained in both clinical psychology and creative arts therapy, I am able to offer a wide range of interventions and individualized care.
