Professional statement

Jennifer Bull is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing telehealth with California clients. She works with young adults and middle-age professionals who have reached some level of achievement in school or work or relationships -- but who feel really stuck. Her clients struggle with intense self-criticism, maintaining close relationships, and making important decisions that could propel their lives forward. Perceptions of poor choices, procrastination on important activities, unwanted behavior patterns, as well as grief and shame, have led Jennifer's clients to experience bouts of anxiety, panic attacks, unexplained anger, depression, and sometimes despair. These feelings cause more confusion and fear when clients feel that everything in their life should be "going right."

Jennifer’s practice is guided by several modalities including existential, psychodynamic, somatic experiencing, and CBT, but most especially AEDP. Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy is informed by extensive research in neuroplasticity, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and the concept of transformational healing experiences within the therapeutic dyad. Jennifer guides clients to understand and move beyond defensive behavioral and relationship strategies which might have gained them love and even survival in their earlier life, but which are now holding them back. Through a secure and safe therapeutic environment, Jennifer and her clients process intense emotions and traumatic experiences to move towards a fuller understanding and embrace of the client's true, core self, leading clients to more authentic, integrated ways of being and living.

Jennifer brings broad professional and life experience to her therapy work. In addition to a Master's in Counseling Psychology and extensive clinical practice, Jennifer has an MBA and worked in the private and nonprofit sectors for over 25 years. Jennifer has been successfully married for more than 20 years and has two teenage children. She practices remote telehealth therapy from her overseas home office.

Message to clients

We don’t get to choose the life we’re born into. Sometimes we get really damaged early in life by parents and caregivers. For emotional, and sometimes physical, self-protection, we shape our early selves to stay attached to our most important people. But often, in adulthood, we find that the way we adjusted our early behaviors to meet the demands and expectations of others, has left us lost to our own selves. We feel confused in our relationships, unable to understand or control our behaviors, and paralyzed by decision-making. We might not only feel these problems inside our minds, but in our bodies too…as the mind/brain, body, and spirit are fully inter-connected.

Life is busy, and even though you know you need therapy – and even want it – you feel that there’s never enough time to fit it in. Recently, I have started to work in a short-term therapy format (12-16 weeks). I work with my clients to quickly focus in on goals we’ll work on together. Right from the get-go, we establish a collaborative, safe, and supportive relationship with the end result of deep healing in mind. If we need more time, we’ll link together “phases” of goal-oriented, short-term therapy to create a longer-term therapy experience. We work together as long as it works for you. We’ll know we’ve been successful together when you feel a peaceful sense of wholeness and a connection to your deepest core self.
