Professional statement

Dr. Jessica Leavell is neuropsychologist specializing in mind-body therapy for chronic pain, anxiety, and other stress-related physical symptoms. Her psychological approach integrates the latest evidence-based therapies proven to provide relief from painful conditions once thought to be uncurable. Dr. Leavell is certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy. She also integrates Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral techniques proven effective for mind-body conditions.

Dr. Leavell has over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She has been a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts since 2008. She received specialized post-doctoral training in neuropsychology and worked for 15 years completing pediatric assessments. Prior to her neuropsychological training she worked for several years as a child and adult therapist. As a graduate student, Dr. Leavell also developed a strong interest in mind-body medicine and helped to create and research culturally-sensitive meditation interventions. Throughout her career she continued to study the mind-body connection through such organizations as the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine and the Center for Mind Body Medicine. After incredible personal success treating her own pain with these interventions, in 2021 Dr. Leavell shifted to full time therapeutic work so she can help others attain relief.

Examples of conditions that these treatments can help include: back, neck, and shoulder pain; migraine and chronic tension headaches; facial and occipital neuralgias; fibromyalgia; chronic fatigue; some forms of arthritis; pelvic pain, irritable bowl syndrome, anxiety, and many more.

Message to clients

Mind-body conditions are very real, chronic and debilitating physical symptoms that develop due to stress, trauma, and other psychological causes. Breakthroughs in pain neuroscience has led to a paradigm shift in our understanding of how chronic pain develops and persists. This knowledge inspired the creation of the innovative evidence-based psychological treatment approaches that are highly effective in the reduction or elimination of pain and other stress related physical conditions.

These chronic conditions result in a cycle of pain and fear that can be incredibly debilitating in a way that is difficult to understand unless you have been there. Overtime we eliminate more and more activities that bring purpose and joy. For those struggling with pain and are considering a mind-body approach, know that I understand your struggle because I've been there. I also believe in this therapeutic approach because it helped me heal.
