Professional statement

Dr. Zuehlke is a licensed clinical psychologist providing virtual therapy to adult clients in Rhode Island and New York. She believes people who are struggling and feeling stuck in life have the capacity to change. She treats a wide range of psychological problems including anxiety and depression, insomnia, substance abuse, difficult life transitions, and trauma. Her goal as a psychologist is to facilitate the change process through individual and/or group therapy. She helps clients make lasting improvements in their lives by examining their thoughts and behaviors, emotional distress, and interpersonal relationships through a collaborative, goal directed process. Dr. Zuehlke’s approach is rooted in evidenced-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and CBT for Insomnia.

Dr. Zuehlke has worked with Veterans for 14 years, treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and substance abuse while also running therapy groups for anger management and stress reduction. In private practice, Dr. Zuehlke works with adults who suffer from anxiety and depression as well as trauma, work/life stress, and relationship difficulties. As a working mother of three small children, Dr. Zuehlke also understands the pressures of motherhood and family stressors.

Dr. Zuehlke received her Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from University of Hartford in CT. She completed an internship at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial VA and a fellowship at the University of Rhode Island Counseling Center. Dr. Zuehlke has over 14 years of experience working in clinical and leadership positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals in both Long Beach CA and Providence RI in addition to running her private practice.

Message to clients

My first priority in starting a new therapeutic relationship is to make you feel safe and heard in order to help alleviate your suffering. I am nonjudgmental and compassionate and will listen to all your concerns with a caring ear. I also believe that change occurs through active, goal-directed work and as such, I will be direct and engaging with you, encouraging you to challenge yourself to reach your goals.

Therapy with me is value-driven and will capitalize on your strengths. In session, we will work together to build your coping skills to deal with anxiety, engage in mutual problem solving, strengthen emotional regulation skills, evaluate any problematic thinking and find more adaptive behaviors for difficult situations in which you find yourself. While focusing on problems is important in order to make change, celebrating progress, both big and small, is equally as vital. I look forward to providing high quality and multiculturally sensitive services that affirm the dignity, worth, and value of all individuals.
