Professional statement

Jess Doughty, MA, LPCC is a therapist located in the west metro of the Twin Cities in Wayzata, Minnesota. She typically sees individuals anywhere in the range of emerging young adults (in college) to mature adults and seniors. She enjoys working with highly motivated individuals that have a sense of who they are but feel stuck. Some have found that traditional talk therapy has been helpful, but they realize they want to experience deeper healing.

As a Certified EMDR Therapist, Jess integrates EMDR with other transformative approaches to help her client’s identify and resolve the root of their problems. She believes people can experience deep and lasting change. She sees most symptoms and problems as having coherence within some context; that is, symptoms are often a result of adaptations that were built non-consciously to survive difficult circumstances. When we grow up or move out of those contexts, however, our adaptations follow us and unfortunately cause us problems in normal more healthy contexts. Our former ways of “being” and operating in the world no longer serve us well, and are getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. Jess helps her client’s identify these emotional schemas, deconstruct them, and reconstruct healthier more adaptive attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors.

While Jess prefers to see her clients in person, she does offers virtual sessions. Her office is located in Wayzata, MN.

Message to clients

Hi there! If you want to go deeper in healing, and are ready to make some connections as to why you have the attitude you have, the thoughts you have or the behaviors you exhibit, then I’m going to be a good fit for you. I love joining my clients to help them understand why they do what they do so that they can change the things they want to change. This often requires bravery as we face some difficult stuff on the road to healing. I’m highly empathetic, and directive. I balance this with consistent check-ins regarding how you feel about the direction of therapy. We often will review your initial goals to see the progress you have made and to be sure we are on the right path in therapy. I’m most often described as friendly, approachable, and curious. I love helping people take steps toward healing and creating a safe space for them to do so.
