Professional statement

Jillian Luz is a  Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (licensed in CA, RI, UT, ME, MA, NY, and NM and telehealth registered in SC) and Registered Art Therapist whose practice primarily focuses on individuals from teens to older adults who are experiencing the effects of past traumas in their everyday functioning and interpersonal relationships. Many clients are experiencing anxiety, depression, and challenges in achieving fulfilling relationships and developing a satisfying career.

Jillian's approach to treatment is tailored per her client's specific needs, personality, and their treatment goals. Jillian often offers CBT, Narrative, and Mindfulness approaches to support development of coping skills and tools to manage current issues, such as negative thinking patterns and maladaptive behaviors. She will often engage clients in attachment-style based approaches, with the implementation of EMDR when appropriate, when addressing and processing trauma. Jillian is currently studying Integrative Medicine in order to better support your mental health and explore the mind/body connection in relation to your mental health and wellbeing.

Jillian implements both directive and non-directive therapy styles. In the early stages of treatment, she often focuses on developing safety and trust within the therapeutic relationship, as these are essential foundations for effective treatment. Jillian also focuses on helping you to develop treatment goals, in order to support you in knowing that your therapy is effective, meaningful, and helping you to meet your desired outcomes.

Jillian has experience with working with neurodivergent teens and adults, including those identifying as autistic.

Jillian offers a non-judgmental and open-minded approach to client treatment and often treats clients who are questioning or identify as LGBTQIA and/or engage in non-traditional relationships.

Jillian is available for telehealth/video and/or phone sessions and can treat any clients in CA, NM, UT, RI, MA, NY, ME, or SC via telehealth through a HIPAA-secure video system.

Message to clients

Trauma can be obvious, such as a car accident, the sudden death of a loved one, or being involved in a natural disaster. Other experiences are more subtle and relational, such as emotional abuse, bullying, or even memories from early childhood that you are unable to freely recall. If you are suffering from feelings of inadequacy, low self-worth, anxiety, depression, difficulty connecting with others, or achieving your goals, you may be suffering from trauma-related symptoms. I offer IFS and EMDR (with art therapy incorporated if desired), for effective and efficient treatment to support alleviating these symptoms and helping you live a more fulfilled life.

I offer a trauma assessment and treatment to support processing past trauma (including chronic and childhood traumas) and grief & loss that may be causing current distress, unhappiness, negative thoughts about one's self or abilities, and a lack of personal fulfillment. I would be honored to support you in your journey to recovering from past challenges so that you can live the life you have imagined.
