Professional statement

Joan is a graduate of The University of Michigan's School of Social Work and is pursuing psychoanalytic training at The Contemporary Freudian Society. She has worked with adults from diverse populations in various mental health settings including in-patient psychiatric units, outpatient community mental health clinics, and Veteran’s Affairs medical centers.

Taking a pause from working in the field of mental health, Joan worked in fundraising and development for various non-profit organizations. She also worked in philanthropy for several years managing grants for a family foundation focused on advancing racial, economic, and social justice. She now returns to clinical work as part of the team at CoreStory to pursue her interest in connecting with others and helping them understand and tell their stories to improve their wellbeing.

Joan is available for remote sessions and in-person to provide therapy for anyone experiencing a wide range of life challenges including depression, anxiety, and trauma. In particular, she has an interest working with adults who are navigating career and life transitions, parenthood, family conflict, relationship issues, and grief or loss. She practices with an anti-oppressive lens in which she recognizes the ways in which race, ethnicity, class, gender, age, and other cultural factors contribute to life experiences and how challenges arise and can impact mental health.
