Joanne deRosa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, trained Psychodynamic Psychoanalyst, and EMDR practitioner located in Nomad. She works with adults throughout their lifespan, assisting with the challenges and the benefits of emotional growth. Joanne has extensive experience working with adults with feelings of low self-esteem, relationship struggles, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and childhood trauma.
She will help you to focus on and understand your patterns of interpersonal interactions and on your beliefs about yourself, which may be interfering with your life goals. Joanne prioritizes the development of a safe space during the therapy sessions, which is essential for doing the therapeutic work. EMDR is an option to incorporate into your treatment or as the central treatment approach depending on your needs. Joanne is familiar with 12 Step Recovery Programs and how vital they can be.
Joanne's style is best descried as active, engaging and non-judgmental. She encourages her clients to ask questions and to share what feels useful and what does not in the therapy.
Joanne earned her LCSW at Fordham University and her Certificate in Psychoanalysis from The Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis. She has a Certificate in Attachment-Focused EMDR from the Laurel Parnell Institute and continues to participate in ongoing training in new EMDR techniques.
Joanne has worked in Mental Health programs for children and families and Addiction Treatment-Harm Reduction programs which have greatly informed her development as a therapist.
Outside of private practice, she is involved in racial justice, animal rights and makes art about the world around her.
