Professional statement

Johanna Dwinells is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board-Certified Music Therapist located in Philadelphia, PA, who works with adults of all ages in order to help them find balance in their lives. Many of her clients are creatives who are looking to harness their full potential. As someone who experiences anxiety, Johanna has worked with many others who also experience anxiety and want to work through the barriers that it poses. Similarly, as a “former” perfectionist she also helps those who feel like perfectionism is an overwhelming weight, parse through self-doubt and negativity.

Johanna has a strong Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) background and uses this therapy as well as other approaches to find the best fit for each client. With DBT, she helps clients navigate self-acceptance in order to begin to change. She also uses mindfulness to help ground clients.

Johanna trained as a music therapist and a counselor at Drexel University and has had experience working with clients in a medical, inpatient and outpatient facility. She is certified in teletherapy as well as anxiety. In addition, she has received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification and enjoys blending yoga along with music into her sessions.

Johanna often has an cozy approach to therapy, at all times meeting clients where they are. She is committed to social justice and strives to maintain an inclusive practice. She offers Teletherapy in Pennsylvania and Walk-and-Talk Therapy in Philadelphia.

Message to clients

You are not alone. I can help you to find balance wherever you need. We can work together to find a therapeutic approach that works the best for you. I'm open to hearing your hopes and worries about engaging in a therapeutic relationship. I want to know what has worked and hasn't work in past therapy. I'm also open to feedback, I want you to get the most out of the time that we spend together.

If anxiety is taking the wheel and holding you back, we can work on accepting anxiety first and then coping with it. I'm also a therapist who is not afraid to assign homework so if this is something that you absolutely don't want or absolutely do please let me know.

I'm excited and humbled to start this journey with you.
