John Mallinen is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Jenkintown, PA. With over a decade of experience, John is passionate about working with adults who have depression - especially those that have tried various treatments for depression but still feel overwhelmed with their symptoms. John’s approach builds on these clients’ previous experiences with mental health care by helping them find ways to walk through their adversity with less judgment and greater acceptance of themselves. John is also passionate about working with men, including men who feel a lack of fulfillment in their daily lives, or men who might have trouble connecting with those around them.
In sessions with a client, John will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship, which is a core element of Gestalt and Psychoanalytic Therapies (John's primary modes of treatment). From this bond, the client will start to process through past experiences and current feelings or fears. In this approach, John supports the client in finding empowerment to make changes in their lives or relationships.
John earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern University. He has an additional certificate in Gestalt Therapy from the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia. When appropriate, John enjoys supporting clients to better understand their own spirituality and how it impacts their mental health or daily life.
