Professional statement

John Poliskey is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Frederic, MI. John typically works with clients who become overwhelmed by their sadness, loneliness, fear, or anger. This can be a result of a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. However, it can also be the result of a life situation or transition. John helps clients explore their emotions and learn more about why they’re feeling a certain way. He works with clients who have addictions that cause conflict with loved ones, as well as those who find themselves feeling a sense of dread or meaninglessness in their lives.

John’s approach to working with clients begins with unconditional positive regard. He believes that all clients are good people and deserve to be shown empathy and compassion. With John, clients begin their healing journeys in a calm, understanding space where they feel safe being vulnerable with their thoughts and feelings. John utilizes Motivational Interviewing to help clients better understand the reasons why they behave the way that they do. He also draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, and family system therapy. Clients learn various coping techniques to bring with them into their everyday lives.

John earned a Master’s degree from Northcentral University. He is a strengths-based therapist who empowers clients to recognize their innate strengths, as well as use their individual traits to accomplish their mental health goals. He equips clients with the mindsets they need to continue on their paths forward.
