Professional statement

Joseph Curnow is a licensed mental health counselor committed to empowering clients to gain knowledge, skills, and resiliency to contribute towards mental health recovery. Many of his clients have found great success in their personal, career, and academic lives but sometimes have struggles that hold them back from their desired personal progress. Joseph is sensitive to clients facing moments of transition, when life becomes unbalanced, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and fear can grow.

Joseph’s approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidenced-based approach that focuses on empowering clients with tools to understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions and how this can impact them in small or large ways. Joseph works to help clients understand how their mind and body are connected, so they can implement necessary changes to contribute to recovery, problem solve with new and creative methods, and use skills to bring calmness and increase healthy responses instead of reactions in the face of adversity.

Joseph’s first task in starting with new clients is that they feel heard, validated, and know they are the agent of change in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, he offers the convenience and comfort of remote sessions to help incorporate therapy as an appointment that clients can have that you look forward to.

Message to clients

I have been the individual that sought counseling for the experiences in life that were causing difficulty for myself. I like to place my clients first and seek to understand their situation and what they are experiencing so that I can serve them as best as possible. My hope for my clients is that through the use of therapy and gaining insight, that they can live a healthy life in which they feel empowered to build upon their strengths, and discover new things about themselves they did not before. I encourage an atmosphere of acceptance, laughter, and healing that clients will feel invited to take charge of their journey of recovery and be the author of their story.
