Professional statement

Currently, I hold a Certification of Evidence-Based Mental Health Practices by the NYS OMH. Modalities I would like to work with are somatic, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based practices.

Joy is a first-generation Lebanese Jewish American, who grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She has five years of experience working with adults and supporting a wide range of needs including anxiety, trauma, depression, and identity development. She specializes in working with the LGBTQIA+ community and First Generation Adults. She holds a BA in Psychology from Hunter College and an MSW from NYU Shanghai Silver School of Social Work.

As a Native New Yorker, one of my favorite things to do is to ride the subway to Chinatown and to walk around the neighborhood and eat delicious foods with friends. I also love to develop and print photos in the darkroom and to travel.

After college, Joy traveled to Chennai and Ethiopia where she film and photography to help fundraise for communities she was working with. Her experiences learning about eastern and Western treatment modalities inspired her to move to Shanghai where she earned a masters degree in social work. As a queer woman, Joy has been in both the client and therapist position and has experienced and understands the need for better awareness on how to offer support and to encourage self-compassion. She uses empathy and humor to create and nurture a safe space. Joy appreciates the uniqueness of each person and believes in a collaborative approach to treatment where she uses psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based practices

Message to clients

After college, I travelled to Chennai and Ethiopia where I practiced narrative therapy and photography. My experiences learning about eastern and western treatment modalities inspired me to move to Shanghai where I earned a masters degree in social work. As a queer woman, I have been in both the client and therapist position and have experienced and understand the need for better awareness on how to offer support and to encourage self-compassion.

I appreciate the uniqueness of each person and believe in a collaborative approach to treatment. The modalities I like to use when working with clients range from psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness based techniques. I also use empathy and humor to create and nurture a safe space.
