Professional statement

Julia Mooney is a Licensed Master Social Worker and a graduate of New York University. As a psychotherapist, Julia creates space for patients to explore troubling patters of thought, feeling, and behavior, and to overcome the inertia that keeps them from living a full, satisfying life.

Using a psychodynamic lens, she works with patients to examine memories, dreams, and the dynamics of early relationships that reveal important, often unconscious insights into themselves. Julia also draws on her training as a life coach to help patients see self-defeating blocks in their behavior and identify strengths to facilitate authentic expression.

Her goal is to enable patients to connect joyfully with themselves, with others, and with the world at large. Julia works with individual and couples of all ages and backgrounds, including those from the LGBTQ+ community.

Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity exploration, and relationship challenges. Prior to her work as a therapist, Julia spent over a decade working in the field of K-8 education.

Message to clients

If you’re reading this, it’s because you are ready to engage in self-exploration. Maybe you want to address a challenge of some kind: relationship struggles, inertia, unhealthy patterns of behavior or thought. Maybe you’ve experienced a change or a loss that is stirring up anxiety, sadness, or both. Maybe you've been living with pain for so long you don't know where to begin. It can feel at times like we are hostage to negative thoughts and circumstances. But we don't have to be. I believe each one of us has the ability to effect meaningful change.

Therapy is a powerful tool to uncover deeply rooted, often hidden influences, learn coping strategies, and nurture inner strengths. Drawing on psychodynamic and person-centered theories, I approach my clients with curiosity and kindness.

I offer a safe space for you to examine your core thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and to address whatever is impeding you from realizing your full potential. Diversity of all kinds is welcome; I embrace the uniqueness of each person's heritage, experience, and self-expression, and look forward to hearing from you.
