Professional statement

Julia Wood is a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in working with women and gender non-conforming individuals in navigating the complexities of emerging adulthood. Many of her clients are young adults who are processing what it feels like to be living an authentic, rewarding life in such a complicated and often overwhelming world. She understands that beginning therapy is a vulnerable process and is committed to helping her clients find safety, confidence, and peace.

Julia uses a primarily psychodynamic approach to help clients work through and fully understand the relationship between their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Much of her work is rooted in helping clients restore their own connection between their mind and body through somatic and mindfulness practices. Her primary interests include working with those in emerging adulthood; adults seeking to heal their relationships with their bodies or food; those who experience any range of anxiety including existential and social anxieties as well as panic disorders; and adults who have been diagnosed with ADHD.

Julia studied social work at New York University's Silver School of Social Work and is licensed in Maine and New York. Her past work has been primarily with adolescents in academic settings, but she has worked with all ages. She is part of Grounded Women's Wellness, a group practice located in New York, New York that specializes in helping women live authentic lives.

Message to clients

I do this work because I know how impossible healing can seem - especially at the beginning!

For many years, I worked so hard to understand what my body and mind were trying to communicate to me. I finally started to experience relief and progress when I felt comfortable enough to be authentic and honest with my therapist, and more importantly, with myself. It can seem terrifying to come to terms with your own self, your fears, and your feelings. My role now, as a therapist, is to build a space with you where you are able to access your own vulnerability and feel the relief of healing.

I would be honored to join you in this challenging but rewarding work.
