Professional statement

Julie Alley, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker whose primary location is in Metairie, Louisiana where she sees clients in person, as well as virtually. Ms. Alley is also licensed in Mississippi and in Florida, and she conducts sessions with clients via virtual therapy in those two states.

Ms. Alley treats clients ages 13+ who present with myriad of issues they want to deal with, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, couples' issues, grief/loss, adjustment issues, self-confidence, communication, women's issues, dealing with breast cancer, other women's issues, etc.

Ms. Alley uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, among other modalities, to help her clients get through, process, heal, improve situations for which they present to counseling. Ms. Alley promotes clients to be themselves in therapy, know they are going to be listened to, heard, and respected as every person deserves. Ms. Alley has been through some of the same things her clients have experienced, which she feels helps her relate to her clients and vice versa, and makes her a better counselor. She uses empathy, compassion, encouragement, as well as direct communication with her clients who Ms. Alley feels are the directors of their own lives.

Ms. Alley has worked in an inpatient psychiatric facility, a neurologic rehabilitation facility, a public school system, and, most recently and presently, in individual practice. Ms. Alley has had multiple jobs before becoming a counselor, and this is what she was meant to do. There is nothing else she can picture as a career for herself that would better suit.

Message to clients

I love to help my clients work through difficult situations/issues, then improve their lives with the new skills needed to empower themselves and lead the lives they want.

I am a very down-to-earth, understanding, comforting person/counselor with a history of trauma, loss/grief, single parenting after divorce, domestic violence, family dysfunction, anxiety, depression, and breast cancer. I say this not for sympathy but to let you know that I am not coming from just an academically-trained. I have been where a lot of you are or experienced what a lot of you have experienced.

I had my own therapy after my mother was murdered by my stepfather (again, not for sympathy). It began my journey of processing traumas, dysfunction, low self-esteem, and much more. There is a saying, "The best counselors have their own counselors," something to that effect.

I found a few wonderful counselors over the years who really helped me, and I want to help my clients in the same way. I understand, and I want you to understand, that clients need to relate to and trust their counselor. I would love to help, and I hope we would click. However, I will always want the best for my clients, including if they decide to find another counelor for a better fit.

Lastly, I am here if you need me and if you feel I can help you! That simple This is about you, not me.
