Professional statement

June Rousso is a licensed clinical psychologist and life coach on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She works with clients of all ages, and particularly enjoys helping college students and adults maximize their existing strengths and overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of reaching goals.

Dr. Rousso offers both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and coaching, a goal-oriented approach for clients who generally feel well, but are looking to take their careers, relationships, and personal life to the next level. She helps clients to identify recurring stumbling blocks, increase self-esteem, and build the skills to connect more meaningfully with the people around them.

In addition to her work with college students and adults, Dr. Rousso also welcomes school-age children and adolescents to her practice. She sees children experiencing anxiety, hyperactivity, behavioral challenges, and the shifting family dynamics around divorce. She provides play therapy to help younger children learn to communicate challenges in an accessible way.

Dr. Rousso's office is conveniently located steps away from the 72nd St subway station.

Message to clients

Therapy can help us become who we truly are, and to learn and grow from our life experiences. It is a unique experience in that we explore ourselves less with judgment and more with an eye of understanding.

Anxiety - Anxiety can inhibit people from setting life goals to being more assertive in different situations. Understanding its roots and facing anxiety without judgment and avoidance are therapy goals.

Depression - Depression can have different roots and often more than one. As the roots of depression and negative thoughts affecting mood are addressed, clients often feel better and engage in life more.

Life coaching - Life coaching is often helpful for clients having trouble with organization and setting realistic life goals. They learn to set realistic goals and to hold themselves accountable in meeting them. Obstacles to attaining goals are always explored.

Nutritional issues - Some clients need help in making better food choices, and in understanding how foods influence mood and behavior. The approach to nutrition is holistic considering not only food, but how other aspects of life such as work and relationship satisfaction influence eating habits.

Learning differences - Learning differences often are judged by clients, and therapy focuses on self-acceptance and learning strategies to manage differences when they affect school and work performance. Clients also learn to express their learning needs to others.

Relationships - Clients work to gain a better understanding of healthy and unhealthy relationships, including fears of intimacy. As self-image becomes more positive, healthier relationship choices can be made.

Work issues - Clients explore what holds them back from being more productive at work and making better work choices, including ways work success can be undermined. Handling work stress is another focus of therapy.

"I felt heard and understood. She shared some appropriate personal info that made her feel like a real human who I could connect with. She gave me a lot of time instead of rushing the call to end and had a good balance when responding to what I shared; she showed that my experiences were significant without making me feel like a freak for having an extreme background."
- Zencare client June 2020
