Professional statement

Kabir Dandona is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York, NY. Many of Kabir’s clients seek help during times of feeling stuck, whether that’s in a relationship, on a career path, or with their personal development. Other clients feel misunderstood by those around them, including by their communities. He offers clients a space to feel heard, understood, and valued.

Kabir’s approach to therapy begins with a strongly built relationship between client and therapist. In the context of this relationship, Kabir helps clients reflect on their feelings. He may ask clients about past relationships or past experiences, drawing connections between this past and what is currently happening in their lives. Kabir encourages clients to explore their inner worlds, including their identities, preferences, culture, and values. He has extensive training in psychoanalysis, which he brings into sessions.

Kabir earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University. He is a deep listener who provides nonjudgmental perspectives to help clients through anxiety, depression, loneliness, overwhelming stress, and cultural issues. By guiding clients towards introspection, he teaches clients skills they need to lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Message to clients

I offer a safe space for you to wonder aloud about yourself and the world you live in. So many problems in life become both more manageable and more meaningful as we articulate our feelings about them. And this is not something we are always given the time or space to do. My role, as a psychodynamic therapist, is to be there with you as you go about this sometimes difficult work, making new sense of your life.

Everyone's path to therapy is unique. I work with people from diverse backgrounds. I have extensive experience working with persons from other cultures, including East and South Asia, and a particular expertise in helping those who are negotiating the many challenges of life in a new city, a new country, and a new culture.
