Professional statement

Kamisha Dixon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Springfield Gardens, NY. Kamisha believes that all clients deserve individualized, tailored therapy that fits their needs, preferences, and mental health goals. She helps clients whose lives are negatively impacted by Borderline Personality Disorder. Clients living with this diagnosis often find themselves overwhelmed by their emotions and in conflict with loved ones, including friends. Kamisha also supports clients whose depression or anxiety holds them back from living fully.

Kamisha’s approach to therapy begins with teaching clients effective coping skills. Clients learn how to handle the emotions that come up during their regular weeks, whether that’s through deep breathing, distraction, or identifying cognitive distortions. This is a part of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based therapy modality that helps clients manage distress and learn more about their emotions. Kamisha also uses psychodynamic techniques to encourage clients to be curious about their inner worlds and to better understand their drives, instincts, preferences, and dreams. By talking through their motivation, especially motivation around changes, clients reflect on what’s important to them and what commonly leads to their stress.

Kamisha earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. She has nearly ten years of experience supporting clients through person-centered, strengths-based sessions. Kamisha has extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and is currently a PhD candidate in Social Work. She strives to go the extra mile to help her clients, as she is dedicated to helping them improve their lives.

Message to clients

Clients struggling with mental health concerns deserve a safe, warm and validating environment to help them process their emotions and meet their goals. Perspective clients can expect that my approach involves support and empathy while still being authentic so clients may confront their issues in a manageable way. Sometimes this confrontation may feel uncomfortable, but at the same time, this vulnerability begets strength and growth, which I strive for when working with clients.

You can count on me to encourage self-validation, coping strategies, and dialectical thinking, which means honoring both sides of the truth and seeing the "gray areas." My hope is that when clients leave treatment or reduce their treatment frequency they feel renewed, restored and healed.
