Dr. Kara Kornher helps couples, individuals and families improve communication and relationship skills, resolve conflicts effectively, recover from past traumas, and set healthy boundaries while honoring everyone's feelings and needs. In addition, she helps individuals recover from codependency, toxic relationships (e.g. narcissistic abuse by a partner or family member) and cPTSD. Her approach is affirming and solution-focused. Dr. Kornher earned her BA in Psychology at the College of William and Mary. She completed her junior year abroad in the UK and is a dual citizen of the US and Italy. Dr. Kornher earned her Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) in Clinical Psychology from the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. In 1994 she completed an APA approved internship at UCSD. Her additional experience includes a postdoctoral internship with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, emergency/ER evaluations at Scripps Hospitals, and private practice/consulting throughout her career.
Dr. Kornher spent 27 years assisting college students with mental health, attention and learning issues navigate higher education, while training doctoral level interns in psychological and educational assessment. She also worked as an organizational Ombudsman for 10 years, helping individuals and groups communicate and resolve conflicts effectively in the workplace.
Highlights of Dr. Kornher's other professional experience include working with student athletes at UCLA, providing ADHD assessments for children and adults in the San Diego Area, and writing Matchmaking Reports for Valenti International.
