Professional statement

Karina works with individuals utilizing varying evidence-based practices including EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness techniques, and acceptance and commitment therapy. She frequently uses EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help her clients adaptively resolve painful and traumatic life events and to address long-held beliefs about themselves that are no longer useful and keep them stuck in unhealthy patterns and relationships.

Karina has a background in the biological sciences as well as working in cognitive behavioral therapy intervention research and enjoys staying current on brain science and mental health research. Many of her clients find relief through understanding of how the brain, biological processes, and their unique personal history and experiences influence their interactions with the world and people around them. This greater understanding enables personalized therapeutic treatment to target areas of potential change in the mind, body, and environment.

Karina has offices in the Normal Heights and Bankers Hill neighborhoods of San Diego. At this time she is only offering teletherapy through a user-friendly, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

Message to clients

Therapy is a great first step if you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging time or you're ready to move in a new direction in your life. I have 11+ years of experience working with individuals. My therapeutic approach is relatively direct, practical, and interactive. With warmth, compassion, and a safe environment, we will work together identifying issues, gaining insights into unhealthy patterns, setting goals, and making the changes you desire for a more fulfilling life.

I see my clients as connected to a bigger picture beyond the symptoms and concerns that bring them to therapy, and I help clients explore what will be most healing based on their own intersecting identities, values, and experiences. I recognize that therapy has differences in power and privilege built in, and I do my very best to make our work together as collaborative and client-led as possible.
