Professional statement

Katherine is a psychotherapist in New York who works with anxiety, depression, trauma, family issues, life transitions, interpersonal relationship concerns and body image. Having received her MHC from Baruch College and gaining experience in the field working at prevention centers, mental health clinics and private group practices, she collaborates with clients in putting awareness into action to enable self-growth. Whether that is self-acceptance, learning to cope with life stressors and traumatic events, developing coping skills to ensure positive connections, developing effective communication skills, cultural integration or gaining self-awareness to end patterns that may be hindering your true self, Katherine will work with you as a team, catering to your goals in a safe, nonjudgmental, welcoming environment.

Working from an integrative approach, Katherine combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness to enable a better sense of self-awareness, recognition of the impact life events have on the self and others, developing adaptive and effective coping skills to self-regulate, and be better able to take actions towards desired self-outcomes. Katherine works with aiding clients on making the connections between the mind and body, becoming cognizant of the way each person responds to life stressors and interpersonal relationships uniquely, identifying those triggers and reframing ways to respond to reduce the likeliness of becoming overwhelmed.

As a bilingual Latinx therapist and second-generation immigrant, Katherine strives to bridge the gap for individuals from marginalized communities seeking therapy. Through providing authenticity, genuine regard, inclusivity, cultural sensitivity and meeting clients where they are at mentally and emotionally, Katherine will help you navigate life challenges and aide in reconnecting you with the self. Katherine currently sees clients remotely, in hopes to resume in-person therapy in the nearby future.

Whether that is in working on interpersonal relationships, addressing academic, work, cultural and/or family struggles, learning how to process difficult life experiences, build self-confidence, or develop the skills to cope with life stressors, I will be your point person in a safe, nonjudgmental, welcoming space to enable you to be your most authentic self. I look forward to meeting you soon!
