Professional statement

Dr. Kathleen Tresness is a Psychologist who works with young adults, including college students, and adults. Dr. Tresness generally works with those who have issues with their anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties including parenting struggles, postpartum/perinatal mental health issues, and school difficulties. Sometimes, Dr. Tresness’ clients need additional support as they navigate major life transitions, such as a career change.

Dr. Tresness teaches clients communication skills that can help them resolve relationship conflicts, including parent-child conflicts and conflicts with significant others. She also teaches clients how to find and use effective coping strategies so they can reduce their mental health symptoms. Dr. Tresness practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), evidence-based therapy modalities based in thoughts and thought patterns. Clients learn how to avoid cognitive distortions that often bring down their confidence or self-esteem. Dr. Tresness also practices The Gottman Method, which is a couples therapy modality to help partners build stronger bonds.

Dr. Tresness earned a PhD from the University of Minnesota. She has over 10 years of experience as a psychologist and enjoys helping clients reach a higher state of wellbeing. Clients leave sessions with the tools they need to feel less stressed in their lives.
