Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCShe/Her/Hers
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCKathy Sterling is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Denver, CO. Kathy works with young adults, adults, and parents. Her clients begin therapy because they struggle to feel balanced in their lives, whether that’s due their mind being occupied by racing thoughts or emotional exhaustion. They feel nervous, anxious, or unsettled despite trying to relax or be present. This can negatively impact their schoolwork, work performance, or even relationships.
Kathy is a Contemplative Counselor, which means that she incorporates both Buddhist and Western practices into her work with clients. Clients learn how to see their mental health condition or distress from different perspectives, further understanding their discomfort and accepting that their emotions may not happen in stable patterns. Kathy teaches clients mindfulness techniques like meditation, through which clients can ground themselves and boost their self-awareness. Kathy also draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a common thoughts-based therapy modality that helps clients connect their thoughts to their feelings and their actions.
Kathy earned a degree in Contemplative Therapy from Naropa University. She has nearly ten years of clinical experience, and is certified in Synergetic Play therapy. Her goal is to help clients learn how to moderate their nervous systems and to accept their body’s natural ups and downs.
