Kelly Kilgallon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Chicago, IL, who works with adolescents and adults across the gender spectrum. Many of her clients find themselves participating sufficiently in their daily lives but struggling to feel a sense of self-worth and vitality. Kelly connects well with clients feeling dissatisfied with their work, social relationships, identity and/or body.
Kelly approaches therapy from a combination of four modalities: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy; shifting her approach depending on the present moment experience of her client and their goals. When using EMDR, Kelly helps her clients navigate current issues and connect to their self-worth through the successful reprocessing of painful past experiences and traumas. With DBT and ACT, Kelly guides her clients in gaining awareness and openness to their emotions to help liberate them from emotional suffering. She also coaches them on how to reconnect with their goals and values, from which they can take more satisfying and meaningful action in their lives. When using a psychodynamic approach, Kelly explores with her clients the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations that are troubling them in order to help them develop a sense of self-understanding and self-acceptance.
Kelly bases her therapeutic process in acceptance and compassion, prioritizing clients' goals for themselves and treating them as the authority of their own experience. Kelly has spent the last ten years working with clients of many different cultural backgrounds and identities in both individual and group therapy, and she remains committed to providing a therapy space that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable.
