Kennedy M. Sabelko is a master’s level Clinical Therapist with over 20 years of experience working in the mental health and educational field. Kennedy’s compassion for helping individuals achieve a better quality of life derives from his own personal and cultural experiences.
Kennedy’s focus is allowing individuals to recognize their irrational or negative thoughts/beliefs (Cognitive Distortions), and how their thoughts and beliefs impact emotions and subsequently behavior.
Kennedy provides coping strategies to decrease and manage negative thinking patterns through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while utilizing Cognitive Restructuring, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) models. Kennedy’s goal in providing treatment is to allow individual to recognize that they can prevent anxiety and depressive symptoms by reconstructing their thoughts and perceptions of challenging events.
Adjustment difficulties & disorders - Support around adapting to new and/or challenging life circumstances; skill-building for improved stress management and reduction of anxiety.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
College & graduate student mental health - Specialized strategies for common issues of young adulthood, including school and career stressors, support around healthy relationships, existential concerns, drug or alcohol issues, eating disorders, and anxiety and/or depression.
Adolescent mental health - Working with adolescents, teenagers, and parents on social, academic, and/or emotional challenges throughout teenage years; addressing anxiety, family conflicts, peer relationships, school stress, transition to college, social media pressures, self-esteem, hopelessness about the future, emotional disregulation
Race & cultural identity - Exploring topics of racial, cultural, and ethnic background as it relates to one’s family origins and personal identity
