Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, DCSWKent Jarratt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York, NY and Asbury Park, NJ. He is currently working virtually. Kent is a meditator in the Soto Zen tradition, and is an instructor of Tai Chi Chih: Both continue to influence his work as a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. He helps clients who suffer from chronic illness, eating disorders, and anxiety and stress. Aware of the need for mind/body awareness, Kent also works in the area of medical hypnosis, to deal with the stress of pre-op and post-op medical procedures, as well as medical issues such as binge eating, irritable bowel (IBS), Crohn's Disease and Meniere's/Tinnitus, sleep disorders, enhanced healing, and more.
Kent approaches therapy from a psychodynamic perspective. He supports clients as they learn more about themselves through introspection. Clients explore their memories, drives, dreams and instincts to come to a better understanding of who they are and how they came to be that person. Kent's training in hypnotherapy is helpful for clients who want to alleviate their physical symptoms or decrease unhealthy behavioral patterns. Kent encourages clients to assess their motivations behind certain decisions or actions they take. He does this through a therapy modality called Motivational Interviewing.
Kent earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College. He holds certificates from The Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia. He was director of the hypnosis program at The National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP). He has been an adjunct lecturer in two graduate programs at Hunter/CUNY, and is the former president of the New York State Society of Ericksonian Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.
