Professional statement

We have seasons in our lives that are filled with stress, anxiety, depression, guilt, disappointment, grief, and even hopelessness. It can be overwhelming, getting stuck in a place where we cannot see a way forward, unable to change unwanted and repeated behaviors, unable to overcome patterns of procrastination and self-doubt. We may feel that no one seems to understand or able to help, feeling frustrated, unmotivated, discouraged, alone, and even ashamed. Or we may be going through transitions, significant changes in work, family, relationships, and are understandably overwhelmed with uncertainty and feelings of loss. If this has been your experience, there is help to walk towards healing and renewal.

Andy is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 10 years of experience helping people in addressing anxiety, depression, stress, panic, and trauma. His clinical experience includes various setting such as an outpatient psychiatric practice in Manhattan, as well as a hospital outpatient clinic. His therapeutic style is warm and collaborative, and sessions may range from silent presence to energetic discussions. He draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which involves working on understanding unhelpful thought patterns and narratives about themselves and perceptions of others. He also draws from mindfulness-based therapy, which includes a focus on the present, practicing compassionate curiosity toward oneself when attending to the reactions of one's mind, heart, and body. He also incorporates parts work, which involves compassionate attending to all parts of themselves that people inadvertently ignore.

Message to clients

Seeking therapy can be intimidating, but it is a step toward a new season of healing and growth. I value and commit to creating a safe, empathetic, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive environment for my clients who are taking this brave step. I work with clients to be radically compassionate and honest with themselves, valuing and validating their emotions, practicing self-care and healthier boundaries and limits with themselves and others, and building self-affirming thoughts and beliefs.

As an Asian immigrant, I have personally experienced the challenges of adapting to a new culture. I think my experience immigrating to the USA as a 10-year-old had a large influence on that, as I felt the struggles of adapting and finding a sense of belonging in a new culture. I found so much healing and self-understanding through my own journey of therapy and support groups that I felt a sense of calling to bring the same to others. I've worked with clients of diverse backgrounds, but also extensively with Cantonese speakers. I'm available through telehealth, where you can practice caring for your emotional and mental wellbeing in the comfort of your home or private conference space.
