Professional statement

LaVonya began working in the behavioral health field in 2003. At that time, she worked with children with intellectual disabilities in their homes and communities, helping them to develop life skills and improve their overall functioning. She also worked with their families to assist them with increasing their access to care and services such as respite and in-school support services.

In 2010, after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral and Addictions Counseling, she began working as a case manager for individuals facing homelessness. It was there that she learned of the impact of addiction and chronic mental health, and she was inspired to continue her education so that she can have a greater impact in fostering positive outcomes for individuals with chronic challenges. LaVonya went on to earn her master’s degree in Professional Counseling. She then worked as an inpatient counselor in an inpatient detox program. Her experience there informed her of the multiple challenges individuals with chronic addiction faced in their journey to recovery, igniting a passion to somehow have an impact on access to care.

Since then, LaVonya has worked in multiple therapeutic settings, including outpatient, intensive outpatient, and short-term rehab. She has worked with hundreds of patients to help them through obtaining and maintaining sobriety, coping with depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. LaVonya currently works as a professional counselor and holds licenses in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. She is also a CADC candidate (Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor).
