Professional statement

Lana Penn is a Licensed Master Social Worker located in New York, NY. Lana enjoys working with adults, particularly women, whose anxiety has significantly impacted their lives. Lana’s clients experience low self-esteem, panic attacks, or intense feelings of shame because of their anxiety, which may be the result of trauma, including sexual assault or sexual abuse. These symptoms interrupt their daily lives by making it difficult to feel connected to others or concentrate on their school or work. Lana also works with individuals who experience chronic pain and seek a space to learn mental tools to cope with this discomfort.

Lana is passionate about incorporating mindfulness and movement into her work with clients. As a certified yoga instructor, she strives to create a space that is both for healing and self-exploration. She encourages clients to talk openly and vulnerably about their feelings, offering them objective perspectives that can help them grow their self-awareness. Taking a somatic approach, she helps clients identify the places in their bodies that they carry their traumas and their stress, slowly and carefully letting go and moving forward. She brings attachment theory into sessions by teaching clients about how their early relationships impact their present lives. Clients learn how to be introspective and to begin new patterns that promote resilience and wellbeing.

Lana earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. Her aim is to support clients to better understand themselves, including learning what their emotions are and where they come from. When clients do this, they tend to feel liberated and motivated to continue to make progress, one deep breath at a time.
