Professional statement

Lara Murphy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Santa Clarita, CA. Lara works with clients of ages 12 and above including teens, young adults, parents, and adults up to age 65. She is passionate about helping clients identify their readiness for change and then taking the first brave step towards that change. This change can be the transition into young adulthood, becoming a parent, starting a new career, or a change in relationship status. Many of Lara’s clients seek the guidance of a therapist to process through painful, traumatic memories and experiences from childhood which impact their ability to make long lasting changes in their current lives.

Lara’s approach to therapy stems from many evidence-based therapy modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-based Therapy. She takes a psychodynamic, strengths-based, person-centered approach to working with clients, who in turn learn how to better cope with distressing emotions.

Lara earned her Master’s degree from the California Graduate Institute in 2000 and has been a practicing as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for the past 17 years. Her versatility as a therapist means that she enjoys working with clients of all situations, backgrounds, and cultural identities. She provides warm, engaging sessions for her clients as they make healthy changes in their lives.
