Professional statement

Laura Florio is a Board Certified Music Therapist and a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist located in New York, NY. Laura is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families as they work through challenges and expand interpersonal relationships. Many of Laura’s clients arrive at therapy ready to grow their connections to one another, as well as process through conflict, transitions, or developmental disorders. Laura specializes in helping families get through chronic illnesses or medical treatments, though also has experience supporting families through school issues, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

Laura’s approach to supporting her clients comes from her love of music. Music therapy with Laura doesn’t simply mean playing instruments, singing, or listening to music. Laura helps clients build skills in self-regulation, emotion management, and coping. She also teaches children how to express themselves intentionally, and how to feel confident in who they are and what they do. She is affirming, human-centered, and strengths-based in her work, ensuring that every client feels unique, accepted, and welcome. She also teaches clients about the importance of relationships, especially early in life. As she works with her young clients, she also incorporates healing and transformation for parents and caregivers as they grow closer to their children.

Laura earned a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from New York University. She believes that every person has a unique way of living their lives and relating to others, especially children with developmental disorders and those who are non-verbal. Laura strives to bring joy into every interaction she has with clients and spread a feeling of happiness.
