Professional statement

Laura Hoge is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey. Clients that Laura typically works with are individuals who are looking inward and exploring or reconnecting with their true selves and core passions. Many feel disconnected from their authenticity for a number of reasons, and this has impacted their ability to meaningfully engage with the world around them. This has often impacted their relationships with people they care about, professional goals, creative processes, etc.

Laura’s approach is collaborative. While many of her clients come to her feeling a bit lost, deep down she strongly believes that individuals know who they are and have the power to actualize into their best selves. Laura sees her role as a partner on this journey of self-discovery. Her approach is mind-body connected, acknowledging that life experiences and generational trauma are often stored in the body. She sees the process of therapy as a journey of liberation. Sometimes, this is from negative personal experiences, and sometimes this is freeing one’s self from the internalization of pressures from family, community, or even a wider society.

In addition to her work as a psychotherapist, Laura is also an educator and an activist. She has worked as an adjunct at Rutgers and Montclair State, training individuals who are studying to become drug and alcohol counselors, and social workers. She is a member of the MINT, an international organization that oversees proficiency in Motivational Interviewing. For the last few years, she has also been training with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. Laura prioritizes continuing education as an integral part of her work, and sees her role as an intersectional activist as part of the essential work of partnering with her clients.

Laura’s office is located in Montclair, NJ, about ten steps from the Upper Montclair train station – a direct line from Manhattan. Many of Laura’s clients also prefer telehealth sessions, so Laura sees clients from both New Jersey and Rhode Island remotely via a secure telehealth platform.

Message to clients

Engaging in the therapeutic process is a radical act of self liberation. We all deserve to be free and to feel peace in our minds and bodies. My process is collaborative, compassionate, and works towards integrating the often conflicting parts of self into a shared goal of living well.
