Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC Doctor of Ministry, DMinLaura Lucia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) practicing in New York, NY, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing in CT. Laura’s clients come to counseling because they feel stuck in unproductive thoughts, distressing emotions, or behavioral and relational patterns that negatively impact their potential to thrive. Other clients come because they experience anxiety, or a sense of languishing, and boundary and self regulation challenges. Laura works with many couples experiencing communication problems, escalating conflict, or issues that undermine a secure and loving relationship.
While Laura sees many people from various faith backgrounds, and others not ascribing to any particular spiritual orientation, she is able to offer Christian counseling for those desiring to integrate a faith-based perspective. For those wanting a Christian perspective as well as clinical competence, she will apply Christian values, and wisdom from the scriptures. Her approach is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, environment of warmth, while applying sound clinical expertise and interventions. Laura works from an attachment perspective, applying prominent modalities based in neuroscientific research. She has advanced training in EFT, AEDP, and Intimate Relationship Skills. She is also skilled in CBT and Gottman Method interventions.
Before becoming a therapist, Laura worked vocationally in urban ministry. She discerned that the potential for sustained change happened mostly through one-on-one counseling, so she sought professional licensure. Laura’s clients appreciate that she does not take a band-aid to deep woundedness or entrenched patterns. Rather, she pursues a path leading to substantive change, so individuals and couples can experience sustained mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational wholeness. She celebrates clients and couples who emerge from therapy with a greater sense of joy, efficacy, and personal and relational agency.
