Lauren Berget is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Metairie, LA. She works primarily with adolescents. Many of Lauren’s clients come in when they feel overwhelmed with school, sports, family, social life, or especially when a combination of all those things are piling up. Lauren is particularly passionate about serving teens who face symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as high school student athletes.
Lauren is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which uses the notion that for every situation we experience in life, we have automatic thoughts which influence how we feel and how we act. In session, Lauren focuses on exploring this connection between a client's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach supports clients to recognize rational from irrational thought patterns and learn to replace unhelpful thought patterns with helpful ones.
Lauren's style is a collaborative one. When a client first comes in, we will discuss the client's goals and history with counseling. Together, we will work to provide the client an enhanced, healthy life that can be maintained without the need of ongoing counseling services.
Lauren received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Tulane University and her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of New Orleans. She gained experience at KIPP Renaissance High School, Ben Franklin High School, and The Willow School of New Orleans, which enables her to relate with students at a variety of New Orleans area schools. Outside of private practice, she coaches high school girls soccer, as well as plays in several adult soccer leagues.
