Professional statement

People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel, by Maya Angelou. LeAnna uses this quote often because she believes how we treat each other is important, she believes every person is unique and therefore so should counseling. LeAnna see's counseling as a collaboration between client and clinician. LeAnna takes a humanistic approach meaning that everyone is the expert over their own lives, and it is her job to walk beside you while you discover your own healing journey.

LeAnna works with you to help you learn strategies and explore life challenges in a compassionate, direct, and trauma-informed way. She will help you learn to recognize physiological and emotional signals that might be causing harm to self and relationships. She will teach you ways to integrate self-soothing practices and investigate thought and behavior patterns. She will talk about what has worked for you in the pass as well as try new therapeutic interventions that might be helpful. LeAnna looks at the forces that have shaped you, including family of origin and social/cultural messages, to help you identify your strengths and the patterns you desire to let go.

Message to clients

A Work In Progress Counseling is located at 2410 SE 121st Ave Suit #104, Portland OR 97216

I named my company A Work In Progress Counseling because I believe that we are all a work in progress, working towards a better sense of self. As a therapist I have the honor of walking beside you during this journey of self-discovery. It is the relationship to self, each other, the community, and the outdoors that sustains and heals us. I believe mutual respect is an important part of the healing process. I want to be the person that can walk with you on your voyage to healing. To do this I will provide you with a safer space to explore your strengths, identify your needs, understand your thoughts, feelings, and goals.
