Professional statement

Leah Adrian-Briggs is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in the south Bay Area, CA, who has experience working with individuals across the human lifespan, with a current focus on supporting older adolescents, young adults, and professional people. Many of her clients experience struggles related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, or self-worth; coming into therapy seeking answers to questions, improve, or to simply be heard and receive support. Leah is particularly sensitive to clients who have survived trauma, creating a place to explore what someone needs to process, heal, and grow into the person they wish to be.

Leah’s approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. At the same time, Leah also emphasizes the importance of tailoring her treatment plan to each individual person, assessing what therapy modality works best for the issue at hand, and adapting sessions based on each person's unique needs. Making her also well-versed in ACT, MI, and client-centered approaches as well.

Leah is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, genuine, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. A trauma-informed therapist, Leah is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges, and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion.

Leah’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.

Message to clients

Hello there! My name is Leah, and I am excited at the prospect of working with you. Having been on the other side of "the couch" before, I recognize how intimidating this all can be, so let me first tell you that my biggest priorities in the beginning is to help people feel at ease, safe, and to start building a trusting relationship. When we're working together, I view us as a team: I bring the expertise on psychology & mental health while YOU bring the expertise on YOU. Contrary to common misconceptions, I am not here to tell you what to do, I am here to listen, support, and offer a space for you to learn what you need for yourself; With listening being the most important part. An aside: I get frequent feedback about how often I'll ask if I've heard something correctly, so there's no silent nods or cryptic/awkward note-taking here.

Being a clinician is very important to me, as ever since I was young I knew I wanted to pursue a career path that focused on helping others. I started my career at first working in public and special education classrooms, and eventually worked my way into becoming a private practice telehealth therapist. I am truly honored to be a part of people's lives in this way, and I do not take for granted this opportunity to support people in living happier healthier lives. I appreciate your consideration, and look forward to meeting you. Cheers!
