Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Doctorate in Social Welfare, PhDDr. Lina Muñoz received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. She moved to the US and received her Masters’s Degree and Ph.D. in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago.
Dr. Muñoz has practiced as a psychotherapist since 2008, providing trauma-informed therapy with youth, adults and families from different cultural backgrounds, providing her with strong understanding of multicultural and multigenerational issues.
Dr. Muñoz provides therapy for children, adolescents, families, and adults. Her areas of interest include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, anger management, trauma, parenting, relational problems, and ethnical/cultural diversity issues. Dr. Muñoz works with parents to advocate for their children and collaborate with school professionals to implement appropriate intervention strategies for children and teens with learning difficulties, mood or disruptive behavior disorders.
Dr. Muñoz is also the Atlanta Branch Director for MIRAUSA. She provides leadership and guidance in developing and implementing educational and community-based programs for the Latino community. Dr. Muñoz is bilingual (fluent in Spanish and English) and has had the opportunity to travel abroad and within the United States. She has made genuine efforts to integrate her culture and life experiences in Latin American countries and the United States. Her practice, research, and experiences of living in both cultures have promoted her self-awareness and informed her personal and professional orientation.
Anger management - Addressing sudden outbursts of anger or sustained resentment; developing healthy anger expression and outlets
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Bipolar disorder - Developing coping and preventive strategies to stabilize extreme mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes; increasing effective strategies to regulate emotions and maintain a healthy daily routine
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Healing painful experiences and memories from the past
Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating
Panic attacks / panic disorder - Brief, intense periods of overwhelming fear or anxiety
