Professional statement

Lisa Blount is an advocate for women’s rights, and anti-racism and particularly creating space for Black women to safely unpack concerns and be vulnerable. She is also the mother of two awesome son’s. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor- Associate. She received her BS in Psychology from Delaware State University and her MA in Mental Health Counseling from Springfield College in 2017. She holds as a motto something her grandfather always taught her, “You’re going get the lesson until you get the lesson”. Through that motto she learned that every moment is a moment to learn and grow and that in every season there is a lesson. She uses that sentiment to hold space, support and inspire others to be the best version of themselves.

She takes pride in creating and sharing a therapeutic space that is safe, where you can explore and build on strengths, express difficult emotions, build hope and identify obstacles that may be blocking your way, without judgement. As a Black woman and mother who has experienced triumph, trauma, hope and despair from both personal and systemic oppression, she has developed the use of a mindfulness based, trauma informed practice and an anti-oppressive approach that fosters a balance of growth and building and deepening skills to cope empowering you to reach goals unique to you.

Lisa is also certified and has additional training in Trauma Focused CBT, DBT, Racial Trauma Treatment, Family Systems Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These modalities are helpful when dealing with trauma, shame, grief, abuse, disassociation, panic attacks, fear, procrastination and more.

Message to clients

Trust your gut. Feeling stuck and unable to fully engage with your authentic self? Or do you find yourself engaging in repetitive behaviors that may have in the past but haven’t served you well lately and not sure why? Sometimes life experiences can cause us to second guess ourselves and lead us toward less than favorable situations. It happens to the best of us and I want you to know that it doesn’t always have to be that way. Often it’s helpful to have the support of a spiritual connection, friends and family. It’s also helpful to have a therapeutic relationship.

The therapeutic space you create with me is a safe space, where you can explore and build on strengths, express difficult emotions, build hope and identify obstacles that may be blocking your way, without judement. I am a New Jersey state pre-licensed therapist. As a Black woman and mother who has experienced triumph, trauma, hope and despair from personal experience and also systemic oppression, I use a mindfulness based, trauma informed care and anti-oppressive approach that fosters a balance of growth and building and deepening skills to cope and reach goals unique to you.

You are not reading this by chance. You were looking for a better or a different way and this is your first step at finding a therapist suited to help you thrive. I look forward to working with you. Schedule an appointment or a free consultation today.
