Professional statement

Lisa Ruesch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who practices in the Flatiron District and Brooklyn Heights.  She has worked with adults, adolescents, and children of all races, ages, economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identifications addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma (including childhood abuse/trauma), addiction, chronic illness, eating disorders, and interpersonal conflict. She also has experience counseling individuals who are navigating personal and professional transitions.

Lisa’s practice draws upon the analytic rigor and diligence that she used in her previous career as an attorney. Her advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy allows her to work in a way that suits each client best.

When working with clients with a history of trauma, Lisa spends time developing trust and rapport, helping clients to feel comfortable and safe. Lisa also ensures clients have coping strategies in place in case they become overwhelmed during a session. She has a deep understanding of the recurrence of patterns in traumatic relationships and is attentive to the ways these patterns can reappear in the therapeutic relationship.

Among Lisa’s goals is to offer her clients a safe space that allows them to explore their many parts. She wants them to leave feeling more empowered to live the life they desire. Lisa received post-graduate training at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies and her MSW from New York University.

Message to clients

As a licensed clinical social worker who practices psychotherapy with warmth and curiosity, I help clients reflect, heal, build on their strengths, and enact positive change. I work collaboratively with clients in an open, safe environment that allows them to give voice to and explore their many parts. Over the course of treatment, they often discover new ways of relating to others and to themselves. I look forward to working with you.
