Professional statement

Liz is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Philadelphia. She works with individuals and families who are looking for support around LGBTQIA+ issues, eating disorder recovery, body image struggles, trauma, perfectionism, and ADHD. Liz herself is queer, and is passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Liz is trained in Family Systems Theory, which means that she helps clients explore how various aspects of their live (e.g., family upbringing, societal influences, personal experiences) influence the way they make decisions and make meaning of their lives. Liz often helps clients identify solutions to problems and use skills that have worked for them in the past, and explore how those solutions and skills may be of use now. She also works with clients on identifying the stories they tell themselves, and examining how these stories impact clients’ day-to-day lives and relationships. Liz’s approach aims to help clients find love and compassion for all parts of themselves.

Liz’s therapeutic style can be described as relational; it’s important to her that she brings her authentic self into her work with clients. She uses humor and appropriate self-disclosure to normalize the struggle of the human experience and help clients feel less alone. Liz prioritizes establishing a genuine connection with clients and creating a space where clients feel comfortable and seen, as she feels that this is a key factor in getting something out of therapy.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson University, Liz worked for 2 years at The Renfrew Center of Philadelphia, providing individual, family, and group therapy sessions. Outside of private practice, Liz enjoys playing intramural field hockey, making art, playing with her dog, and trying new restaurants in Philadelphia. She offers in-person therapy sessions in Philadelphia, and can do virtual therapy sessions for residents of PA, NJ, and FL.

Message to clients

I know that it can be challenging and uncomfortable to start therapy for the first time or to begin with a new therapist - this is a transition that I'm equipped to help you ease into smoothly. One way I do this is by having all new clients to do a brief phone consultation prior to scheduling a first session just to get an idea if we may be a good fit for one another.

I use the first therapy session to get background information on clients, so we have a solid base before jumping into the heavier stuff that might be bringing you to therapy. I also talk with clients at the start of therapy about what their past therapy experiences were like, what worked and didn't work, etc.

I truly believe that clients are the expert on their own experiences, and I work collaboratively with clients to ensure they are getting the most that they can out of therapy. I look forward to hearing from you!
