Professional statement

Lori Field is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Pittsford, NY. Lori is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families with their mental health. She helps people manage their anxiety and stress, including the anxiety and stress that arise with parenting or family conflict. She also supports those who have ADHD and challenges with executive functioning, which can lead to low self-esteem or low self-worth. Many of Lori’s clients are also facing major changes in their lives, which can amplify their need for warmth and empathy.

Lori’s approach to therapy begins with a caring and supportive environment. She begins the therapeutic relationship by mapping out what brought her client into therapy, and seeing where their concerns lie. Lori then encourages clients to talk about how they’re feeling and to express their emotions, talking through what’s challenging them. Clients learn effective coping strategies as well as strategies for reducing their negative self-talk. Lori practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as several other evidence-based therapy modalities.

Lori earned a Master’s degree from Columbia University School of Social Work and has nearly twenty years of experience working in the mental health field. She focuses her client care on supporting their work towards their goals so they can achieve solutions to what’s challenging them in their daily lives.

Message to clients

Therapy is a place for you to be seen and heard. I work from a strengths/empowerment perspective and incorporate cognitive-behavioral, systems, and narrative frameworks into my therapeutic approach. My style is relational, empathetic and direct. I strive to provide a warm, caring and supportive environment in which you feel comfortable making changes to reach your goals at your own pace. I will work alongside you to explore and expand upon beliefs and stories that no longer feel supportive, so that you can connect more deeply with your inherent strengths and capabilities.

In our first few sessions together, we will map out what brought you to therapy. We will create goals for our work together, and we will assess what it will take to get there. I will help you to uncover what is happening, as well as how you got to where you are now. In our sessions we regularly explore your values—what is truly important to you. We work together to use your values as a guidepost to make decisions and manage your concerns. This means I’m not going to tell you what do to, but I will work to make therapy a space where you are comfortable problem solving and “talking it out” to make the decision that is best for you.
