Professional statement

Luke is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Tallahassee, FL. Luke works with a variety of clients and specializes in working with adults of all ages, particularly those that are discouraged, disillusioned, or disappointed. His clients often find themselves at crossroads with challenging questions like "Where do I go from here?", "How do I make sense of this?", and "What is my purpose?". He is skilled in treating depression, anxiety, life transitions/adjustments, family of origin issues, communication deficits, low self-esteem, lack of assertiveness, relationship concerns, and spiritual matters.

Luke's practice emphasizes the role each client plays in their own mental health and employs their self-determination as an essential component in the achievement of their therapy goals. He uses an eclectic therapeutic approach that utilizes a combination of evidence-based treatments and frameworks that include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), family systems theory, solutions-focused therapy, and behavioral activation to assist clients in improving their mental health.

Since becoming an LCSW, Luke has worked in a variety of mental health settings including community mental health, school social work, and university counseling. Luke is also a deacon for his church, helping to care for the church and its members.

Message to clients

I am an unconventional therapist in that it is a second career for me following a 10-year career in construction project management. I draw on my own varied life experience to both identify with client struggles and aid in the improvement of their mental health. I understand the daily challenges clients face and value the tapestry of life experience that has brought each client to where they are now.

As a Christian therapist, I welcome Christians and non-Christians alike. I lean on my knowledge as a therapist and insight as a believer to assist my clients in improving their mental health. I offer a Biblical perspective in my practice to the extent that each person is interested. My approach is both compassionate and motivating, acknowledging the hardship clients face while recognizing the need for change.

I implement a wholistic approach that considers all aspects of a client's life including thought patterns and learned behaviors, social support, family relationships, workplace concerns, daily routine and lifestyle, social media use, and spiritual life to assist clients in making change. I practice continually under the principle that change is both hard and necessary and that each client, when ready, has the potential to achieve the success in their mental health they desire.
