Professional statement

Luz Martinez is a licensed mental health counselor in Miami. She works with adults of all ages. Many of Luz’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, trauma, self acceptance, and self esteem. Luz is particularly passionate about serving working professionals and recent graduates who are experiencing a discrepancy between how they want to live their lives and the reality. She also has advanced training in the area of PTSD, trauma and addictions.

Luz is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Client Centered, Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), in which we identify the habitual thoughts and stories that play in the background of our self beliefs and behaviors. This allows us to make the changes in our lives to live and feel more authentic. In session, Luz focuses on self compassion, love and kindness mindfulness, inner child work, journaling, breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, grounding exercises, along with identifying distorted or problematic thoughts and beliefs. This approach supports clients to be more present and mindful of their experience and make the necessary changes.

Luz's style is warm, non-judgmental, and supportive. When clients first start therapy, Luz will work to build trust and provide a supportive environment where they can feel comfortable and seen. Clients goals and feedback on sessions are welcomed and encouraged to ensure it's supportive and helpful environment and session.

Luz received her MS of Psychology from Florida International University. Prior to her private practice she has worked in local community mental health centers and substance abuse facilities. Outside of private practice, she enjoys reading and spending time with her dog, Valentina. Luz offers both in-person and tele-counseling sessions. The office is centrally located off of US1.

Message to clients

Congratulations, you have taken the first step in seeking support and living authentically. Most people are considering psychotherapy for months before they actually start. You are moving from the "thinking about it" stage to the "doing something about it" stage.

For our first session you and I will discuss what is working in your life, what are your strengths, what are the positives, what makes you YOU. We'll also talk about the things you'd like to see improve, change or eliminate. This is based solely on what fits and is right for you!

I strive to ensure that my clients feel safe, secure and know that they are not being judged for what they think or what they feel.

I see my role as being the therapist, the cheerleader and the advocate as needed.

It can get better and IT DOES GET BETTER!
