Magda Zapata is a compassionate and highly skilled licensed mental health counselor dedicated to empowering individuals on their journey towards mental and emotional well-being. Ms. Zapata has demonstrated her commitment to serving the community in various roles. Recently, worked as a Case Coordinator in a Detox/Inpatient Rehabilitation hospital. Previously, she has worked as a primary adolescent counselor for Outreach Development Corporation and a substance abuse counselor for Bridge Back to Life Center.

After gaining invaluable experience working in various clinical settings, including community mental health centers and hospital environments, Ms. Zapata followed her dream of creating a safe and nurturing space where individuals could receive personalized and comprehensive therapeutic care. In pursuit of this vision, she founded her own private practice, Expand Your Wellness Mental Health Counseling.

She provides therapy to individuals, couples, adolescents and families addressing mental health and substance use disorders, and handling crises such as overdoses and substance use withdrawals. As a licensed clinical mental health counselor, I am here to work with you to manage and overcome your own challenges in life and be able to help you live your life with a sense of ease and fulfillment. My experience includes working with adolescents and adults of diverse backgrounds in outpatient, residential and hospital settings. I work with individuals, families, and couples in both English and Spanish.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, substance use disorders, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues, family conflict, adolescent/teen issues, couples/marital conflict, life transitions, career transition, and stress management.

My approach to therapy combines various evidence-based techniques to help best meet the individualized needs of my clients. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavior therapy, mindfulness/meditation, person-centered, strengths-based therapy, trauma-informed CBT, motivational-interviewing, psychodynamic, and narrative therapy.
