Professional statement

Maki (she/her/hers) is a Mental Health Counselor based in New York City and works at Resilience Lab. Having a multicultural background herself, she recognizes the importance of providing culturally competent counseling. During her graduate career, she worked at an emergency services team and an outpatient community health center in the Boston area. She has experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, cultural adjustment, interpersonal stress, and more.

Maki believes that every client’s needs are different and uses various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic approaches, and more to find an individualized counseling method that works best for each person. She meets every client where they are at and places an emphasis on taking a nonjudgmental and empathic approach to foster an environment where individuals can feel safe to share their experiences.

Feel free to schedule a free phone consultation to discuss what you are looking for in a therapist and to learn more about Maki’s practice. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic, she is unable to conduct sessions in person at this time.

Message to clients

Taking the time to step into therapy and engaging in your own personal growth is an empowering choice. I understand how finding a therapist can be a daunting task, whether it’s your first time or you’ve had several. I believe in the importance of collaborating with my clients and to find approaches that work best for you.

We all manage an immense number of stressors in our daily lives and therapy is a space where you can take time to pause, reflect, and grow. You are the expert of your life and my role as your therapist is to provide insight and understanding into your experiences to assist you on your journey. We can work together to safely explore, unpack, and learn new ways to navigate complex situations and emotions.
